Notes - Montagu and Lilian Alliston were singers with the Quinlan Opera Company. Thomas Quinland set up his own company to provide the provinces and dominions the chance of hearing grand opera on the same scale as Covent Garden. The company was set up in Liverpool in 1911, and Quinlan would supervise everything, casting the operas himself. The company rehearsed in London for 5 months before touring the provinces, opening in Liverpool, visiting Ireland then setting off for Australia, but performing first in South Africa en route.
Montagu and Lilian must have been regulars in the company and are recorded as travelling to New York and Toronto in 1918, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1923, New York in 1932-33.
