    • Perhaps a younger son of the Furness Abbey tenant at Lancaster was offered a vacant tenancy (caused by the Black Death in 1348-9?) on their Furness Felss estate, so bringing the first Scotson to A.P. Or - we are told that members of the Rawlinson family of Greenhead, Colton who built Colton church c.1475, fought at Agincourt on 24 October 1415; could it be that a friendship developed between comrades-in-arms during that campaign brought the first Scotson to Colton? Among the fifty archers assigned by the King to send to France, 3 Hen V, with the company of Robert Laurence of Ashton, Nr Lancaster, Esq, was one Thomas Scotson (Farrer Mss, Manche ster Central ster Central Reference Library Archives L1/50/11, p.192.)
